Lavinia Popescu is the Moroccanoil Senior Director, Product Development and R&D, based in New York, NY. The leader and pioneer in oil-infused beauty, Moroccanoil offers a complete line of hair care and styling products, as well as Moroccanoil Body™ and Moroccanoil Sun™, in more than 65 countries and counting.

In her role, Lavinia is responsible for all aspects of Research & Development efforts for the Moroccanoil, Moroccanoil Body™ and Moroccanoil Sun™ brands. This includes innovation, ingredient and technology development, formulation development, and clinical and consumer studies. 

Prior to joining Moroccanoil in 2016, Lavinia worked as the Head of Research & Development at Elizabeth Arden, where she developed over twenty products for the company’s flagship skincare lines, including the PREVAGE®, Eight Hour, Ceramide, and Visible Whitening brands. Previously, she was a Senior Scientist in Research and Development at Estee Lauder for the Clinique, Estee Lauder, Jo Malone, and Bumble and Bumble brands. Her work there generated two patents and several patent pending applications. 

Throughout her career, Lavinia has both presented and published her research extensively. A paper about one of Lavinia’s technologies utilized in the PREVAGE® skincare line, entitled “Idebenone, Arazine™ and Ergothioneine Protect Against UV-induced Inflammation and Photo Damage,” was presented at the prestigious European Society for Dermatological Research Meeting in 2012. Lavinia’s work has also been presented at various esteemed symposiums and published in the Journal of Colloid and Surface Chemistry. 

In Romania, Lavinia earned a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from the University of Bucharest and worked as an Assistant Professor of Quantum and Physical Chemistry at the University Politechnica of Bucharest. There she conducted research on interholographic interferometry and its applications to cell membrane diffusion processes. 

Lavinia moved to the United States from Romania in 1998 to further her career as a chemist at the San-Mar Laboratories, where she developed formulas for skincare products. Lavinia then went on to complete her MBA at Dowling College. Lavinia currently lives in New York City with her family and enjoys travelling, reading and hiking.
