    New to in-cosmetics North America this year are the Regulations & Claims workshops.

    The sessions cover the latest updates on cosmetic claims and regulations in the US and beyond and aim to help attendees better anticipate potential challenges and opportunities when creating new personal care products.

    Indie brands can also benefit from attending a specially curated Regulations & Claims workshop on day 2 of the event.

    The sessions will be taking place in the Technical Seminars Theater.

    Latest regulatory updates that will affect the US cosmetics manufacturers

    To achieve a global market presence, manufacturers and brands must comply with an ever-changing array of complex international cosmetic regulations, where significant regional and global differences exist for the definition of cosmetics and the applicable regulations.

    To formulate and market a compliant cosmetic product requires an understanding of the regulatory obligations of product ingredients, product uses and product types. In addition, chemical restriction lists, company policies, consumer concerns, and retailer restriction lists may further impact ingredient selections. 

    This presentation will look at some of the recent regulatory updates affecting US cosmetics manufacturers, and will examine the systems and processes you can put in place to monitor and act upon regulatory and non-regulatory changes on an ongoing basis.

    INCI Nomenclature: The purpose and the process

    INCI stands for International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredients and is a globally recognized nomenclature system for ingredients used in cosmetic products around the world. In many regions, INCI names are required for the ingredient labeling of cosmetics and personal care products. 

    This presentation will explain the U.S. regulatory framework for ingredient labeling; the emergence of the INCI nomenclature system; and the INCI application process and publication of INCI names. INCI application “hints” and examples for some of the science-based conventions that have emerged to facilitate the creation of this unique and informative naming system will also be presented.

    A step by step for Indie Brands on how to be U.S. claims-compliant - When and why to use claims to bolster sell-through and mitigate legal risk

    Consumer claims provide the proof-of-efficacy that buyers require before purchasing products. But marketing isn’t the only reason claims are a must have. Well-crafted claims provide beauty brands with essential tools to help mitigate US legal and regulatory risk. In this workshop, the audience will learn:

    • The regulatory and legal risks of not substantiating your product claims
    • Best practices for crafting and substantiating powerful and emotional product claims
    • Different claims for different products, CBD,
    • Supplements and Beauty and Personal Care products
    • Hot words to use (or avoid) in clinical and consumer claims
    • How claims bolster sell-in and sell through in the US market and,
    • Specific claims that feed the consumer’s insatiable appetite for proof of efficacy

    This session will include a 30 minute interactive workshop where we will dissect case studies and teach best practices for creating impactful claims for a variety of products.
