Essential oils are plant derived ingredients that have been used for health and beauty applications for thousands of years.

With the emergence of the green beauty trend companies have begun to incorporate essential oils into cosmetic formulas in hopes of providing further benefits from a natural ingredient. They have also found application as fragrance components and preservatives. But essential oils can pose a significant health risk and formulating with them must take these risks in consideration.

This talk will cover the use of essential oils in cosmetics, what they are, factors effecting formulation, proposed benefits and the science relating to their use.
