Innovative approach on how to make a long-wear liquid eyeliner

In this lab session we will make waterproof gel eyeliner by using simple processing with minimal equipment. Kobo’s Waterproof Gel Eyeliner, KEL-004C, is comprised of a gelling system with AQUA KEEP 10SH-NFC. This system tolerates a high percentage of Kobo’s acrylic polymer, KOBOGUARD® 50AMP.

The blackest black shade is made with WSJ10CB-NP, a Black 2 dispersion in the same film-forming polymer. KTZ® EBONY has a high concentration of Black Iron Oxide, which provides depth of color.

The combination of SESQ-MH5, a composite microsphere, and SILICA SHELLS contributes to a non-skipping line, even application and optimized drying time.

Speaker: Fred Ortiz, Senior Chemist, Kobo Products, Inc.

Cost, time & equipment saving by using surface treatment in natural foundations

Handling pigments in makeup formulations is a delicate exercise requiring experience, equipment and time to obtain the best color development and stability. In order to simplify formulation processes, Sensient has developed natural surface treatments, such as HLC (Hydrogenated Lecithin), that allow the direct incorporation of pigments within the formulation with no need for grinding steps.

During the session, we will demonstrate how HLC treated pigments can be used to easily formulate cold processed W/O foundations while decreasing development times, and equipment requirements, leading to cost savings for formulators.

Speaker: Stellie Balthazard, Application Technologist III, Sensient Cosmetic Technologies
